The whole scene of Tam Hiep dam received the biggest flood in history, opened 10 flood gates
The Tam Hiep Dam, the largest hydroelectric project on the planet, recorded upstream water discharge of 72,000 m3 / second and is still increasing on August 20.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, the Three Gorges Dam in Hubei province, central China on August 19, began to face the biggest challenge since its commissioning in 2003.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources of China, the amount of water discharged into the Three Gorges dam has reached 72,000 m3 / second in the evening of August 19. Heavy rains continue to pour significant amounts of water into the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
Floodwater discharge is expected to continue to increase, exceeding 75,000 m3 / sec on August 20.

In a series of close-up photos on the evening of August 19, the Three Gorges Dam  opened 10 flood discharge gates. In the past, when the return water flow was only 50,000 m3 / sec, the dam had to open only 4 flood discharge gates and the biggest flood in July only caused the dam to open 6 flood gates.
Up to the evening of August 19, the Three Gorges Dam operator has increased the flood discharge volume to 49,400 m3 / second. The water level at the dam wall is 160.5 meters, compared with the maximum safe level of 175 meters.

China's Ministry of Water Resources has requested that reservoirs in the upper Yangtze River, including two other hydroelectric dams, Ertan and Xiangjiaba, share the burden with the Three Gorges Dam.

For people in the downstream area, especially the stretch of the Yangtze River that flows through Wuhan City, the new flood discharge of the Three Gorges Dam is a worry. During the previous flood discharge of the Three Gorges dam, Wuhan city was heavily flooded, the water level was sometimes only slightly lower than the largest flood peak in history.

Tam Hiep hydropower dam is a multi-purpose hydropower project. The dam is 2,309 meters long and 185 meters high. Three Gorges Dam  has a 5-storey elevator used to move boats across the river and 34 detecting units, with a maximum capacity of 22,500 MW.
